My mission is to support your health and performance, both on and off the trail.

Meet Briana, Your Sports Dietitian for Runners, Cyclists, & Outdoor Enthusiasts

Hi, I’m Briana Bruinooge, the Sports Dietitian Nutritionist behind New England Nutrition and Exercise. I'm all about nutrition for runners, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy a mix of various activities.

Nutrition is unique to each individual. I support my clients based on their activity and lifestyle. I understand that food is emotional and can feel daunting. I meet you where you are to support the notion that food is fuel and nourishment.

In a world of negative diet culture, it can be mentally challenging to take action to fuel your body with what it needs most. I take a non-diet dietitian approach, guiding you with science-backed nutrition information and tools to implement sustainable nutrition changes.

I am an athlete, outdoor enthusiast and an outdoor adventure chef. I enjoy running, cycling, rock climbing, soccer, and skiing in New Hampshire and beyond. This includes gravel biking, mountain biking, and triathlons. My longest race has been a 50K trail run in Maine.

I love to cook nutrient-dense food, sometimes while camping and on outdoor adventures like whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, and surfing with First Descents.

I understand that matching athletic performance with nutrition needs is not easy and can feel confusing with contradicting nutrition information out there. I am here to help!

My Sports Nutrition Background

During my undergraduate studies at the University of New Hampshire, I became a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor.

In 2018, I was selected as the Sports Performance Dietitian Intern for the Minnesota Twins Baseball Organization during Spring Training. I spent two months in Florida working with minor league baseball players, helping them get a nutrition edge to advance to Major League Baseball.

In 2018, I also established my private practice, New England Nutrition and Exercise, in conjunction with Nutrition in Motion. Where I help endurance athletes and active individuals through 1:1 nutrition coaching in Portsmouth, NH in person and virtual worldwide.

Since 2019, I have been the Sports Dietitian for Bowdoin College. I work with their student athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and health services providers. I have provided 15 different sport-specific nutrition presentations for teams.

In 2021, I passed the board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics exam, which I will continue to do every 5 years. This required 2 years and over 2,000 hours in athlete nutrition care to earn the credentials CSSD, certifying me as a specialist in my field of sports nutrition.

I work closely with a local woman’s triathlon group called SHEcoast multisport and a running group called Mercuria Running.

My practice continues to grow, with a focus on performance nutrition for runners and cyclists who want to feel energized, strong, improve performance, and are in it for the long haul.

No more fatigue, reoccurring injuries, gut issues and dealing with contradicting nutrition information

Let’s debunk nutrition myths and reclaim your time and energy to feel your best, train strong and perform better.

Food is not always easy to get or easy to eat based on time and other individual lifestyle factors. I help athletes and outdoor enthusiasts dial in their nutrition to match their training load. I delve into cognitive behavioral therapy to help you change negative behaviors about body image or food choices so that you can enjoy both your sport and life to the fullest. I love teaching runners, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts how awesome food is that it provides us with nourishment, energy, muscle and bone building properties and so much more.

Support

I support individuals in their nutrition and fitness journey, wherever you are at.

We start with the basics, working on your nutrition foundation and learning how to eat for your level of activity.

We’ll tackle digestive issues, fatigue, or other unwanted symptoms.

Empower

I empower runners, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts to fuel your bodies in a way that supports both your sport and your life—so you can feel strong, energized, and thrive for the long run.

What fun is life and exercise if you are tired, injured, and always thinking about food?
